Risk Management

The Office of Risk Management's efforts for the University of Illinois System encompass both strategic risk and financial, operational activities. Risk Management is the insurance agent for the system, serving its universities, regional sites, Extension offices, and system offices.

The University of Illinois system purchases insurance or has established self-insured programs for its property and liability risks as circumstances require. We service and support these major insurance programs:

  • Liability (public, board legal, professional)
  • Medical professional
  • Contract review
  • Risk assessment or evaluation
  • Miscellaneous coverage placement (auto, transit, fine arts, equipment such as farm machinery, academic camp accident insurance)

Worker’s Compensation and Claims Management

The Office of Workers' Compensation and Claims Management is responsible for the investigation and management of the workers' compensation claims of all University of Illinois employees who are injured on the job, regardless of location. This responsibility includes employees of University of Illinois Extension statewide, Rockford and Peoria medical schools, and those on the U of I payroll who work at remote locations.

Enterprise Risk Management

The Office of Risk Management is separate and distinct from  the University Office of Enterprise Risk Management (ERM), which identifies risks and develops plans to avoid material impact on finances and operations for the System.
