Who Gets a UIN
Many forms and types of interactions with a university, campus, or unit program in the U of I System—no matter how brief they were—result in a UIN being created.
Automatic UIN generation
UINs are generated or retrieved automatically for:
- Persons who apply or ever applied for admission, regardless of whether or not they are/were accepted or attend(ed)
- Paid employees

Our Help Desk always creates (or assigns existing, match-confirmed) UINs that are requested for:

- High school students at the University Laboratory High School ("Uni High") in Urbana

- SHIELDT3 mobile testing site workers
- Students of UIUC's Fire Service Institute or Police Training Institute
- Faculty and staff annuitant retirees

We create or assign existing, confirmed-match UINs for other affiliated persons. These affiliates include, but are not limited to:
- Visiting faculty and guest lecturers
